Reno Veteran Awarded FREE Hot Tub

Thursday, March 4th, 2021

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

The Spa and Sauna Company, spa manufacturer Sundance Spas, and the charity Wish for Our Heroes recently teamed up to award a local veteran a FREE Sundance Spa as a small thank you for her military service.

This is the third time since 2018 that the three organizations have worked together to award a local Nevada veteran a free hot tub.

“We’re definitely grateful, for sure,” said Rose Kemp, of Reno, about the donation to her, her husband and their two daughters.

As an avid runner, Rose is excited for the relief from aches and pains, and the family time, that the new Hamilton 780 hot tub will provide.

Rose happens to be part of a military couple, as she and her husband Dennis Kemp are both long-time members of the Nevada National Guard, and both have been deployed overseas. They met due to their involvement in the military after being introduced by friends. As members of the Active-Duty Guard, both she or her husband could be called up at any time to serve. Additionally, they both hold full-time positions working for the military. Rose works in Human Resources with the Active-Duty National Guard, while Dennis works in the Central Issue Facility, which issues clothing for everyone in the military in the entire state.

“As dual Military our schedules get very hectic and having the hot tub would help us spend time quality together with our two daughters,” Rose said in her application.

Delivery Day

On the day of the delivery, Rose and Dennis were so thankful for the donation.

Their backyard patio had a space that looked like it was made for their new Sundance Hamilton 780 Spa, once they moved their self-standing hammock out of the way.

“We’re just really grateful and excited,” Rose said.

About the Wish for Our Heroes Program

Wish for Our Heroes is “a national 501(c)(3), dedicated to providing resources to the “average” active-duty military member, in order to make their deployments a little easier, and to improve the quality of their family lives while home or during deployment,” according to their website.

Together Sundance Spas, Wish for Our Heroes and Sundance Spa dealers around the country will have donated hot tubs to 73 veterans nationwide by the end of this year, said Ariel Najera, Channel Marketing Manager for Sundance Spas. The collaborative program, Hot Tubs for Heroes, was started in 2016. The organizations intend to continue donating hot tubs to veterans.

Rose is one of the 19 veterans and active military members selected in 2020 to receive a free Hot Tub, although most of those hot tub deliveries were pushed out until 2021. Recipients for the 2021 calendar year have not yet been selected.

This is the third spa donation in Nevada. All of these spa donations were through The Spa and Sauna Company.

About Our Recipient

Rose, now 37, joined the Nevada National Guard with her best friend in 2002, shortly after graduating high school. She said they signed up with the intent to take advantage of the GI Bill educational benefit. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, in addition to working full-time.

Rose currently serves in a supervisory human resources role, managing the administrative paperwork for over 800 soldiers. Rose dreams of joining the Washoe County School District as an Elementary School teacher, after she retires the military, in about 6 years. At that time, she will have served in the National Guard for 20 years.

In 2004, Rose was deployed to Iraq, where she served as a Motor Transport Operator, assisting with transporting supply and equipment to numerous bases in Iraq. Later in her deployment, she was assigned as a Gun Truck Operator, her mission being to provide convoy security to numerous units convoying across Kuwait and Iraq.

“To this day my deployment to Iraq has been the most challenging, but most rewarding time of my military career. During my deployment it made me value the meaning of teamwork, hard work, comradery and made me value life more than I ever had before. My deployment will always be a momentous time in my life in which I was able to meet some of the best Soldiers and leaders whom to this day consider as my brothers and sisters in arms.”

Among those brothers and sisters in arms are The Spa and Sauna Company’s 1st Wish for our Heroes recipient, Daniel Rogers, and our 2nd Wish for our Heroes recipient, Kevin Vogt. She happens to know both of them. While they weren’t deployed together, she shares a Battalion with Kevin Vogt and works in the same office building, but not department, as Daniel Rogers. Read more about those donations here and here.

Dennis also served active duty overseas, in Afghanistan, with the Military Police in 2010 and 2011.

What Participating in This Program Means to The Spa and Sauna Company

As for The Spa and Sauna Company team, Wish for our Heroes delivery day has become one of our favorite days when we can see how hot tubs really change people’s lives.

“We, at The Spa and Sauna Company, are honored to fulfill this hot tub donation, in conjunction with Sundance Spas and Wish for Our Heroes,” said Spa and Sauna Co. Owner Scott Clark. “We are incredibly grateful to Roseanne and Dennis for their Service to our country. We wish Roseanne and her family years of enjoyment, family time and hydrotherapy benefits from their new Sundance Spa.”

We wish Roseanne, Dennis and their family a lifetime of happy hot tubbing in their Sundance Hamilton Spa!

This is the 8th year in a row that the award has been given to Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this win again, especially during the year 2020,” said Spa and Sauna Company Owner Scott Clark. “We would like to thank our team, our customers, the community, and the Santa Cruz Sentinel for this award.”

Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz carries and services Hot Spring Spas and Endless Pools swim spas, and Freeflow Spas.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel runs a yearly Readers Choice online poll. In the poll, Sentinel readers weigh in on the best of everything throughout Santa Cruz County.

The Spa and Sauna Co. Wins Two Sundance Awards

Thursday, February 11th, 2021

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

The Spa and Sauna Company earned two awards in 2020 from Sundance Spas at their virtual dealer conference this year.

Despite the challenges that the year 2020 presented, The Spa and Sauna Company was awarded The Sundance Gold Club Award for Exceptional Sales Performance and the Exceptional Customer Service Award.

The Gold Club award recognizes dealers whose Sundance Spas sales volume ranked in the top 10% of dealers nationwide.

In a letter from 2 directors of sales at Sundance Spas, Bett Sitton and Paul Garratt wrote: “Your hard work and dedication to the Sundance Spas Brand has earned you special recognition…Congratulations on your success in 2020.”

In a year when The Spa and Sauna Company embraced selling hot tubs over FaceTime and other virtual apps, not having as many hot tubs to display, working with customers while socially distanced and wearing masks, and an increasing in demand for hot tubs, this award truly means a lot.

The Spa and Sauna Company has also earned both of these awards previously, too.

“We’d like to thank Sundance Spas for these awards and their support this year, and we look forward to what 2021 will bring,” said Company Owner Scott Clark. “We’d also like to extend a big thank you to our entire team, especially our sales and customer service teams.”

To read more about The Spa and Sauna Company and see our full list of awards over the years, click here.

The Spa and Sauna Company began carrying Sundance Spas in late 2013 at its Reno area stores. It is one of several high-end hot tub brands that the Spa and Sauna Company is proud to offer.

Other hot tub manufacturers decided not to present awards in 2020, due to the unusual circumstances the year presented.

Tuesday, February 18th, 2020

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

It’s official – Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz has won the Santa Cruz Sentinel’s Readers Choice Award for Best Pool & Spa Dealer for 2019.

This is the 7th year in a row that the award has been given to Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz.

This year’s award is special because Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz, along with Hot Spring Spas of San Jose, were acquired by The Spa and Sauna Company in early 2019.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this win again. To have retained this long-time award is an honor.” said Spa and Sauna Company Owner Scott Clark. “We take pride in carrying the highest quality hot tub brands and serving the Santa Cruz and San Jose communities. We would like to thank our team, our customers, the community, and the Santa Cruz Sentinel for this award.”

While Hot Spring Spas has always carried Hot Spring Spas and Endless Pools swim spas, this year brought the addition of the value-line of plug-and-play hot tubs, Freeflow Spas.

Many improvements to the showrooms have been made over the past year, including a full renovation to the décor in Santa Cruz, and a relocation of the showroom in San Jose.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel runs a yearly Readers Choice online poll. In the poll, Sentinel readers weigh in on the best of everything throughout Santa Cruz County.

One of the reasons Hot Spring Spas earned the award is because of the dedication of their many long-time team members, who are committed to providing extraordinary customer service year after year.

Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz and San Jose have received dozens of awards from manufacturers over the years.

This award is special because it is from the community we serve. We know that the hot tubs we provide to the community are truly making a difference in people’s lives by providing relaxation, wellness benefits and family time.

Help Al Jackson – Spa and Sauna Team Member Who Had a Stroke

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Al Jackson, a long-time team member of The Spa and Sauna Company, had a stroke in February. Al had worked for The Spa and Sauna Company for over 14 years.

After his stroke, Al spent some time at Renown Hospital in Reno before being released to vocational rehabilitation, where he is relearning day-to-day tasks. Bills have been piling up and without being able to work, he is in danger of losing his home.

The Spa and Sauna Company has created a GoFundMe page, which can be accessed Here to assist with his recovery.

Help Al Jackson

Al’s History with The Spa and Sauna Company

Al was a community favorite with hot tub owners in the Northern Nevada community. He worked as a concierge technician and delivery crew member in the community and was often specially requested by Northern Nevada hot tubbers. Over the years, he has held many positions within the delivery and service department. Most recently, he also worked as a lead delivery trainer, teaching new crew members how to care for hot tubs and handle them appropriately.

How We Feel About Al

“Al is like family to us,” said Shelley Clark, co-owner of The Spa and Sauna Company. “He is so caring and loyal. We hope he can rehabilitate quickly. He is loved by so many.”

Danielle Gaba, service scheduler at The Spa and Sauna Company, worked closely with Al on a daily basis, arranging schedules for Al and other concierge technicians. She said she often would rearrange the concierge schedule because hot tub owners always wanted Al to service their hot tub.

“Overall, he’s just a good person,” said Danielle Gaba, Spa and Sauna Service Scheduler. “He always thought of others.”

Al was always a positive influence in the showroom too. He made up nicknames for his co-workers, left them the occasional gift, and always had a smile on his face. His friendly demeanor put everyone at ease, co-workers and customers alike.

“Al was somebody who every day brought up morale,” Danielle said. “All the (other) techs looked up to him. He was a good trainer.”

Kevin Thompson, sales manager at The Spa and Sauna Company, worked with Al for over a decade.

“There’s nobody quite like Al,” Kevin said. “Everybody loves Al.”

Kevin explained that Al was very well respected by members of the community, customers and his co-workers, most likely because of his ability to connect with people and make them feel comfortable. He was an authority on what hot tub owners needed to keep their hot tub in the best possible shape, and he genuinely had their best interests at heart.

“I always say he’s like the best salesperson we’ve ever had. Al has a high-level of respect for the company and the company’s best interest, which translates to the customer having the best experience every time.”

Trish Ferris, general manager at The Spa and Sauna Company, had a special bond with Al. They developed a friendship over the years and as a display of their friendship, Al would even leave her favorite chocolates on her desk as a treat.

“I love him to pieces,” she said, smiling at the memory.

Everyone at The Spa and Sauna Company misses seeing Al every day, and his absence is felt by the community too.

How Nevada Hot Tubbers Feel About Al

Here are some of the reviews Spa and Sauna customers have made on our Yelp and Google My Business pages about Al over the years.

Wife and I just received our spa from Reno Spa and Sauna company.  The delivery team was excellent.  There was no hesitation when they saw the old tub that needed removal (It has a gazebo built around it). Al, Anthony, Tony and Oscar all were professionals.”

“Purchased the 3x maintenance package with one being a total purge and so glad I did.  The staff is wonderful with scheduling. Had Al come out twice, very friendly,  knowledgeable and courteous. Al remembered my draining preferences and does a great job.”

“Installers Casey, Anthony, Al and Chris were very professional and did a great job. Thank you!!”

“Great team who handled delivery and answered all my questions — Casey, Anthony, Al and Austin.”

“The crew all introduced themselves when they arrived. They were polite, professional, had integrity in their work ethics. They not only showed respect towards us, but towards each other as they worked. This crew works well together. They represent The Spa and Sauna Company in the utmost professional mannerisms and are an asset to your company. Anthony, Casey, Al, Chris we cannot thank you enough.”

Reasons to Work at The Spa and Sauna Co.

Thursday, June 6th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

The Spa and Sauna Company is a locally-owned business with roots going back to 1990 in the Reno, NV area and 1976 in the Bay Area of California. We’re always looking for new members to join our growing team!

Meet our Team and Consider Joining Us

Community Favorites

The headquarters in both Reno, NV and Santa Cruz, CA have been voted community favorites by local publications.

The Spa and Sauna Company has also received numerous awards for sales, service, and growth. We’ve earned a spot 3 years in a row on the Inc. 5000, which is a list of the fastest growing small businesses in America.

We also give back to our communities, by sponsoring local events and even donating hot tubs to veterans. Read about our most recent donation here.

Room for Advancement

Several team members in both states have started in entry-level positions and grown with the company, into more advanced roles.

If you have the desire to learn and work hard, know it will not go unrecognized here.

Bonus Potential/Vesting

Most team members have potential to earn bonuses, both for meeting individual and team goals, in addition to their base salaries.

Also, team members who have been with The Spa and Sauna Co. for more than 1 year can join the company’s 401K program, which includes a contribution from the company. Growth for the company equals growth for you and your retirement fund, even if you don’t contribute to that fund.

Company Growth

Since 2014, The Spa and Sauna Company has grown from 1 store location in 1 state to 5 showroom locations in 2 states, and a dedicated warehouse in Reno.

There are various opportunities to grow with us, in Nevada and California.

Workplace Perks/Team Building

Need a coffee break? At our Reno/Sparks locations, complimentary coffee is available for customers and team members. Sometimes, there are even snacks!

Our delivery crew has a constant supply of jerky and protein bars and other treats available too at our Reno location.

We care about our team and have quarterly meetings to discuss new initiatives with our entire team, in each state. We want everyone on our team to know what’s going on with The Spa and Sauna Co.

Our Reno Operations Department has monthly meetings to catch up and share high points and praise from the past month and our Sales Team has bi-weekly team meetings as well.

Each year, we have an off-site Holiday Party in both states as a team building event and to celebrate our successes over the past year.

And, a few times a year, especially during the spring and summer, there are Company BBQs, at both locations.

We believe if you work hard, you should play hard too. Our Service and Delivery Crews also go on team building outings. Their most recent outings were laser tag and an escape room experience.

Employee Purchase Program

Another amazing perk is our employee purchase programs. Want a hot tub in your own backyard? After a year of employment, you may qualify for employee pricing on a hot tub, swim spa, pool table, sauna or BBQ.

From growth potential to bonus potential to awesome perks, we all know that The Spa and Sauna Company is not just a place to work, it’s a place to be part of a team.

We hope you will consider joining our team!

Sparks Veteran Awarded FREE Hot Tub

Thursday, March 14th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

The Spa and Sauna Company, spa manufacturer Sundance Spas, and the charity Wish for Our Heroes have teamed up to award a local veteran, Kevin Vogt, a free Sundance Spa as a small thank you for his military service.

This is the second time in less than a year that the organizations have worked together to award a local veteran a free spa.

Kevin, who lives in Sparks with his wife and son, has been in the Army National Guard for almost 20 years now. He is currently a few months away from retiring. Kevin most recently served in Kuwait in 2016-2017. He has also served in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Egypt.

“We, at The Spa and Sauna Company, are honored to fulfill this hot tub donation, in conjunction with Sundance Spas and Wish for Our Heroes,” said Spa and Sauna Co. Owner Scott Clark. “We are incredibly grateful to Kevin for his Service to our country and the sacrifices he and his family have made during his many overseas deployments. We wish Kevin and his family years of enjoyment, family time and hydrotherapy benefits from their new Sundance Spa.”

Kevin, who has back and shoulder injuries from his overseas tours, is looking forward to the therapeutic value his new Hamilton 780 hot tub will provide. Although he has experienced daily discomfort from his injuries, there is no surgery available for him right now. Prior to receiving his hot tub, he relied on stretching for pain relief.

“I’ve had it recommended from several doctors – use hot tubs.”

Kevin started his military career in the Iowa National Guard at the age of 17 in 1999. He needed parental permission to join prior to turning 18.

“I decided military is what I wanted to do,” he said, as he explained how he graduated high school early, and spent what would have been his senior year of high school in basic training.

After joining, he attended the University of Northern Iowa, but was deployed overseas twice, so it took him 7 years to graduate. He married his college sweetheart, Courtney, and together they moved to Nevada about 10 years ago. They now have an 8-year-old son, Gavin.

On the day of delivery, only Kevin was around. Courtney was at work and Gavin was at school.

“My son is so ridiculously excited about this,” he said, of their new hot tub.

Kevin is planning to retire from the military this spring, after 20 years of service.

“It’s going to be a lot more time with the family,” he said, mentioning that he is looking forward to that, especially after time away during deployments.

Wish for Our Heroes is “a national 501(c)(3), dedicated to providing resources to the “average” active-duty military member, in order to make their deployments a little easier, and to improve the quality of their family lives while home or during deployment,” according to their website.

Together Sundance Spas, Wish for Our Heroes and Sundance Spa dealers around the country will have donated hot tubs to 35 veterans nationwide by the end of this year. The collaborative program, Hot Tubs for Heroes, was started in 2017. The organizations intend to continue donating hot tubs to veterans.

“Kevin was chosen because of his need of hydrotherapy due to multiple injuries in his back and shoulder from his service. We want to make sure Kevin receives the hydrotherapy he needs to have a better day to day life using our Sundance spa… Sundance Spas knows that hydrotherapy can be beneficial to our veterans suffering from injuries post service, which is why we’ve partnered up with Wish for Our Heroes and launched the Hot Tubs for Heroes Program nationwide,” said James Choi, Channel Marketing Manager for Sundance Spas.

This is the second spa donation in NV. Both were through The Spa and Sauna Company.

Kevin, and last year’s recipient, Daniel Rogers of Reno, actually know each other and have been on 2 deployments together. They currently belong to the same unit, although Kevin spent 9 years in Infantry before joining the Military Police.

Daniel actually referred Kevin to the program.

“This is going to be a great way for us to relax and just be together as a family,” Kevin said, of his new hot tub. “Being overseas so many times, I’ve been away for a little bit so it’s nice to be able to do something together and to have something that’s going to relieve some stress. I’m pretty excited to have it.”

We wish Kevin and his family a lifetime of happy hot tubbing in their Sundance Hamilton Spa!

Santa Cruz Store Wins Readers Choice Award

Thursday, February 21st, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz has won the Santa Cruz Sentinel’s Readers Choice Award for Best Pool & Spa Dealer for 2018.

This is not the first time the award has been given to the Santa Cruz showroom. It has been awarded to them every year since 2013, making this the 6th consecutive time the showroom has received the award.

Readers Choice award goes to Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz

Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz and San Jose, which were acquired by The Spa and Sauna Company in early 2019, have been a part of their respective communities since 1976.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel runs a yearly Readers Choice online poll. In the poll, Sentinel readers weigh in on the best of everything throughout Santa Cruz County.

One of the reasons Hot Spring Spas earned the award is because of the dedication of their many long-time team members, who are committed to providing extraordinary customer service. Despite a change in ownership, Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz and San Jose have maintained the same team.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this win,” said Spa and Sauna Company Owner Scott Clark. “We take pride in carrying the highest quality hot tub brands and serving the Santa Cruz and San Jose communities. We would like to thank our team, our customers, the community, former owner Patrick Carstens and his VP Lynda Sisk, and the Santa Cruz Sentinel for this award.”

Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz and San Jose have received dozens of awards from manufacturers over the years.

This award is special because it is from the community we serve.

“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Santa Cruz and San Jose communities,” Clark said. “We look forward to continuing the legacy of excellent service, now that Hot Spring Spas of Santa Cruz and San Jose are part of The Spa and Sauna Company family.”
