Backyard Consultation – Planning for a Hot Tub

Thursday, April 25th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

So, you’ve been thinking about a hot tub. Maybe you’ve consulted our Hot Tub Buyer’s Guide, which can be found Here. Maybe you’ve done some research online. Maybe you’ve used a friend’s or family member’s hot tub, and you like theirs.

But have you started planning to put a hot tub in your backyard?

As a courtesy, we offer a unique service, called a Backyard Consultation, which is a complimentary no-obligation visit from a salesperson where you can discuss optimal hot tub placement in your yard, and desired privacy and view. Simply fill out a form on our website and one of our hot tub specialists will be in touch. You can find the form Here.

After filling out the form, one of our hot tub specialists will contact you by email to set up an appointment.

We’re willing to come to you and your own backyard, in the Northern Nevada area, Northern California area, or the Bay area in California. A backyard consultation can be done before or after picking out your hot tub in one of our 5 showrooms.

Here are some of the topics we will discuss:

Hot Tub Placement

Our hot tub experts will help you find the best location for your hot tub. We will also help you find the ideal direction to face the hot tub. Have you considered which way the sun hits your backyard at the time you think you will be using your hot tub most?

We have advice about placement of the hot tub cover and cover lifter also. You will want your hot tub cover and cover lifter to be easy to use. We can also help you find the correct side, so you don’t block any desired views.

And, if you don’t already have one, we can make suggestions about the type of hot tub pad that will be best for you.

Hot Tub Needs

Have you considered what size hot tub you want? What about shape?

While most hot tubs we offer at The Spa and Sauna Company are about 7 feet by 7 feet and square or rectangular in shape, we do have some uniquely shaped and smaller or larger hot tubs to fit your needs as well. Some hot tubs are round, triangular or even diamond shaped. And we have hot tubs that can fit as few as two people, or as many as eight.

Our hot tub experts can direct you to the questions you need to ask yourself to find your ideal hot tub. If you haven’t already made your hot tub purchase, we can bring recommendations and brochures.

Electrical

What about electrical? We will explain how to set up your hot tub, its placement & voltage that will be needed. Most of the hot tubs we sell require 220 volt electrical hook ups, but we also offer hot tubs that work with a standard 110 volt outlet. We can even provide you with a list of electrical, concrete and crane vendors we have worked with in the past.

Delivery

At The Spa and Sauna Company, we always deliver your hot directly to your preferred location in your backyard. At your Backyard Consultation, we’ll evaluate if any special equipment is needed for your hot tub delivery. Most of our hot tubs are delivered by a delivery crew, that places the hot tub on a sled and brings it to your backyard, but the occasional delivery requires a larger delivery crew or even a crane.

To request a FREE hot tub backyard consultation, Click Here. One of our hot tub experts will be in touch shortly.

And if you’re considering a Swim Spa, we offer backyard consultations for those as well. Click Here for to get started with a Swim Spa backyard consultation.

Now is the Time to Consider Trading in Your Hot Tub

Thursday, April 4th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

Have you seen what’s new in hot tubs? Is your hot tub starting to become a little less appealing due to its age? Is your hot tub from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, or even the early 2010s?

While a quality hot tub can last decades, hot tub technology has come a long way in recent years. Some of our customers still have the same hot tub they bought in the 1980s, but others like to trade in for a newer model every 7 to 10 years. Regardless of which kind of hot tub owner you are, investing in a top-quality, high-end hot tub is the best way to ensure that your hot tub can go the distance.

Here are our top reasons to consider a trade in:

Money Back

Did you know if you trade in your hot tub to any of the 5 Spa and Sauna Company locations, you can get value toward your new purchase? To get started, fill out the form here and one of our Hot Tub Trade-In Experts will get back to you with estimates on how much we can put toward your new hot tub, with your trade-in.

Advances in Design

Newer hot tubs have beautiful exteriors made up of vinyl, acrylic or rotomolded plastic. They are easier to keep clean than some of the older hot tub exteriors. They have also been redesigned in recent years, to feature lighting on the cabinet. Most have nice, clean lines that match today’s stylistic preferences. Click Here to visit our hot tub finder.

Advances in Water Care

Select Hot Spring and Caldera Hot Tubs come Freshwater Salt Ready. The Freshwater Salt System is uses salt and water to generate chlorine naturally. This reduces water care chemicals required to keep your hot tub clean, reduces the amount of time it takes to maintain your hot tub, and reduces the number of times you need to change your hot tub water. It’s environmentally-friendly and good for your skin and easier to manage. We call that a Win Win!  Find out more about FreshWater Here.

Newer Warranties

All of our new hot tubs come with warranties from the manufacturer. Warranties cover individual components of the hot tub and range from anywhere from 1 to 7 years, depending on the series and model. Why Portable Hot Tubs Are Better Than In-Ground Hot Tubs

Thursday, February 28th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

There are a variety of choices to make when it comes to getting a hot tub.

What we’re going to discuss today is why a portable hot tub is better than an in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub.

At The Spa and Sauna Company, we recommend keeping your portable hot tub portable, as it was intended. Let us explain why.

Reason 1: In-ground or semi in-ground hot tubs add a lot to construction costs

The hot tubs available from The Spa and Sauna Company are designed to be placed on a concrete pad. While you could sink them into the ground, that would require another contractor to dig a hole and possibly build a structure to surround your hot tub.

If your hot tub is placed in-ground or semi in-ground, you would require excavation, ground reinforcement, and a French drain or sump pump. That would add time and cost, and additional vendors. None of those things are necessary for hot tub enjoyment.

Plus, have you seen the cabinets on our hot tubs? They are designed to be aesthetically pleasing and functional. Why would you want to cover that up?

Reason 2: In-ground and semi in-ground hot tubs are harder to get in to

With a typical above-ground portable hot tub, you step up on a couple of steps and then into your hot tub, usually to a shelf that is about the same height as the highest step.

With a in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub, you step down into your hot tub from higher up, which means it’s a little awkward to get in your hot tub. It also increases the chances that you might slip.

It also harder to remove the cover on an in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub, because you can’t rely on the assistance of a mechanical cover lifter that pairs so nicely with a portable hot tub.

A hot tub that is harder to open and get into gets used less than one that is easy to access.

At The Spa and Sauna Company, we want to make sure you get as much use and enjoyment from your investment as possible.

Reason 3: Safety

When a hot tub is flush with the ground, you have to take extra precautions to make sure no children, pets, or inattentive adults, inadvertently step into your open hot tub.

That’s a lot less of a concern, when your hot tub is several feet above ground-level.

Reason 4: Energy Efficiency

The ground temperatures in Nevada are a lot colder than the temperature outside. That works to your disadvantage with an in-ground hot tub.

Although the temperature outside can swing by about 30 degrees from day to night, the ground temperature does not experience those variations. It just stays colder. That means the ground around an in-ground hot tub holds in the cold (not the heat) which works against your goal of keeping your hot tub hot.

You’ll end up paying more in electricity costs to keep an in-ground or semi in-ground hot tub heated.

Above-ground portable hot tubs work with the temperature and the sun exposure to reduce you energy costs.

Reason 5: In-ground or semi in-ground hot tubs are harder to access for electrical hook up

Installation is more complex. Your electrician will need access to run the wires to your hot tub. If the access area is underground it will be harder to get to. If you decide to build a structure around your hot tub, please make sure you can access the control panel and electrical hook up.

Reason 6: In-ground and semi in-ground hot tubs are harder to access for routine maintenance, routine cleaning, and service

There are times when you will need to open up your hot tub’s doors to the equipment compartment, either for routine maintenance or service. If that door is underground or even partly underground, that becomes much harder to do.

A well maintained hot tub is a hot tub that gets used more often.

Reason 7: Moving your hot tub

Should you move or decide to relocate your hot tub, The Spa and Sauna Company can help you. If you’ve submerged your hot tub, you now have a hole in your yard to fill and possible a structure to remove too.

We hope the reasons above have helped you decide if an in-ground, semi in-ground, or portable spa is right for you.

Clearance and Scratch and Dent Hot Tub Covers Now Available at Sparks Showroom

Thursday, February 14th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

The Spa and Sauna Company now has Clearance and Scratch and Dent Hot Tub Covers available at our Sparks Showroom, at 250 E. Glendale Ave., on the corner of McCarran Blvd. and Glendale Ave.

The Spa and Sauna Company gets Clearance and Scratch and Dent Covers from a variety of places and we are always getting more. If you are looking for a specific color or size, check back in with us every so often.

How We Get Clearance Hot Tub Covers

Some of the ways we get these covers are:

  • When we do “haul-aways” where we remove someone’s hot tub (often to replace it with a brand-new one) and they no longer need their cover.
  • When people decide to get a Cover Replacement, and if their old cover is in decent condition, we evaluate it for resale.
  • When new Covers get lightly damaged in our warehouses. They’re practically new, but might have a small blemish or tear.

Regardless of where we got the cover, all our Clearance and Scratch and Dent Covers go through a thorough Spa and Sauna Company evaluation by our Inventory Specialist. If a hot tub cover doesn’t meet our standards, it is thrown away.

Hot Tub Cover Grading System

We have developed a grading system for our Clearance and Scratch and Dent Covers that allows us to price them between $100 to $400. This can be a steep discount from a new factory replacement cover, which typically start at $499.99. Deluxe covers for larger hot tubs or those with additional features or customizations can be over $599.99, when purchased new.

Our grading system includes:

  • A level Clearance/Scratch and Dent Covers are priced around $400 and are like new.
  • B level Clearance/Scratch and Dent Covers are priced around $300 and might be slightly worn.
  • C level Clearance/Scratch and Dent Covers are priced around $200 and are typically moderately worn.
  • D level Clearance/Scratch and Dent Covers are priced around $100 and are typically very worn or have minor rips.

Clearance and Scratch and Dent Covers are sold as a “cash and carry” item. We want to make sure you have seen the item first and assessed it thoroughly to make sure you are satisfied with its condition. Should you need your Clearance or Scratch and Dent Cover delivered, we would be glad to do that, for an additional fee.

Is a Clearance Hot Tub Cover Right for You?

A Clearance or Scratch and Dent Hot Tub Cover might be right for you if:

  • A new cover is currently beyond your budget.
  • You’ve bought one of our used hot tubs.
  • You’re looking for a quality cover at a bargain price.

Visit us at 250 E. Glendale Ave. in Sparks today!

All About Circ Pumps

Thursday, February 7th, 2019

By Laura Varnon, Marketing Coordinator

What is a Circ Pump or Circulation Pump? Do I need a Circ Pump? Why? What makes a Circ Pump essential for a quality hot tub?

In the blog below, we hope we can answer all of your questions about Circ Pumps.

What is a Circ Pump?

A Circ Pump is a low-flow pump that comes standard on most hot tubs carried by The Spa and Sauna Co. A Circ Pump keeps the water in a hot tub circulating at all times. This is done so the water inside the hot tub is being filtered, heated, and treated with sanitizer 24/7.

Do I need a Circ Pump? Why?

A Circ Pump is used to enhance your hot tub experience.

Since hot tub water is only changed about every 4 months, Circ Pumps are used to keep water fresher and cleaner for a long period of time.

The Circ Pump ensures that your water is moving and clean.

While you can still purchase a hot tub without a Circ Pump, our hot tub experts at The Spa and Sauna Company recommend that you purchase a hot tub with some sort of filtration system.

Hot Tubs without a Circ Pump often use a two-speed pump. The pump is on low-speed when circulating the water and on high-speed when running the jets.

Just like switching a light on and off often burns out an incandescent light bulb faster than leaving it on all day does, constantly changing the pump speed of a two-speed pump wears out the motor in the hot tub faster than using constant filtration provided by a Circ Pump.

If replacement and maintenance costs are a concern to you, you may be better off making a slightly larger up-front investment, in exchange for less repairs and replacement costs down the line, as well as a superior hot tub experience.

What makes a Circ Pump essential for a quality hot tub?

Would you like your water to be refreshed, filtered and heated, while you are in your hot tub? Without a Circ Pump, you need to alternate between those functions.

It comes down to what is more important to you. A hot tub with a Circ Pump has an easier time maintaining the temperature you’ve selected. That’s because while you are in the hot tub, the water circulates past the heater, and fresh, sanitized, heated waster comes out of the jets, while you use your tub.

With a two-pump system, you have to decide between heated water or moving jets.

Most people have a more enjoyable spa experience, when they can have both at the same time.

Here, at The Spa and Sauna Company, it is our goal to provide you with the most enjoyable hot tub experience, at a budget that suits your needs.

Circ Pump Hot Tub models we carry start at $6,999 and go up from there. They are typically available in the Caldera Paradise and Utopia Series; the Hot Spring Limelight, Highlife and Highlife NXT series; and the Sundance 780, 880 and 980 Series, depending on which showroom you visit.
